Citrus Garlic Scallops
The world is your oyster (or scallop) when deciding how to cook your sea scallops. If your creative juices aren’t flowing, try this recipe on for size when you need a quick dinner and want something healthy and utterly satisfying.
When people think about making seafood at home, cooking shrimp and salmon typically tops the list. But there is one seafood choice that is quick to cook, loaded in nutrients, and comes with a uniquely delicate taste that is hard to match.
Sea scallops, when cooked properly, can make for an easy meal that can be prepared in very little time and with even less effort. And since these jewels of the sea are available frozen, keeping them in your freezer and defrosting them when it's seafood night makes enjoying scallops just too easy.
What are scallops?

Scallops are a type of shellfish that is similar to oysters, mussels, and clams. But unlike other mollusks, scallops die quickly when harvested and are therefore typically sold shucked and frozen.
There are two types of scallops: bay and sea. Bay scallops are found in bays and are on the smaller side. Sea scallops, harvested from deep and cold ocean waters, are larger. Both offer a briny and delicate taste that are hard to match.
Nutritionally, scallops pack a punch when it comes to healthy nutrients. At a 3-ounce serving, scallops contain 333 mg omega-3 fatty acids, 1 gram of fat, 20 grams protein, and under 100 calories. Plus, a serving contains a slew of micronutrients, including calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc.
How to Cook Sea Scallops
Sea scallops are a breeze to cook. First, if you are using frozen sea scallops, like Greensbury Market’s wild caught sea scallops, make sure they are fully thawed and dry before preparing.
From there, searing and grilling tends to be your best bet when cooking sea scallops. Since they are on the smaller-side, they only require 4-5 minutes of cook time to be ready to eat. Top them with your favorite sauce, and you have dinner ready in no time.
How To Buy Sea Scallops

Unlike many other seafood options, sea scallops need to be eaten very shortly after they are harvested. Otherwise, they need to be frozen shortly after being caught and enjoyed at a later date.
Choosing frozen sea scallops from Greensbury Market ensures that the scallops you are feeding your household are wild raised and sustainably caught – making them an excellent option for both yourself and for the sea.
